How Well Do You See?

Posted in Religion, Seven-Minute-Sermons by pdave on September 11th, 2008

Personally, I have never experienced a supernatural vision of Jesus Christ. I do not necessarily discount those who make such claims. But, I just do not think it is necessary in order to know and serve Him in this life. And I do believe with all my heart that Christ is present in our world and in our lives. The Bible tells us: “We walk by faith, not by sight.”

Do you see Jesus? Do you see yourself as God sees you? Join me in this brief consideration of how God enables us to see Him and to see ourselves through the eyes of faith.

This is a Seven-Minute-Message. It includes the story of a horse trade gone awry. There is consideration of a healing by Jesus as told in the Bible. And, I’ll challenge you to look around your life for Jesus- He is there. Finally, I’ll ask you to look at yourself through His eyes. Truly, whether you realize it or not, you are someone special.

Why The Turtle Cannot Fly

Posted in Religion, Seven-Minute-Sermons by pdave on September 11th, 2008

Well, of course a turtle cannot fly.  It is something he was never intended to do.  Frustration and unhappiness are the inevitable results.  So very many people have the same experience with life.  Big questions: “Why am I here?”  “What is my purpose in life?”  I believe the Bible gives a clear and discernible answer.  And, of course, I believe it all has to do with God.

This is a Seven-Minute-Message… perhaps a few seconds over the limit!  You will enjoy the story of the frustrated turtle.  And I think you will identify with the conversation between Peter and Jesus.  Finally, I hope you will find encouragement and meaningful insight as this little message seeks to answer the greatest question of life.

Judge Not

Posted in Religion, Seven-Minute-Sermons by pdave on September 30th, 2007

“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.  Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.” - Jesus, Luke 6:36-37

It is not my business, right, or even option to judge another person.  Yes, I can evaluate a thing or an action.  But when my conclusions and condemnations concern the value of a person, then I have crossed a moral and spiritual line.  The judgment of a person’s motives and eternal destiny- now, that is the responsibility of God alone.

This is a Seven-Minute-Sermon.  There is a lot packed into this little message.  It includes a humorous conversation between a paritioner and a priest.  And there is a lesson about passing judgment, learned well, by an attorney.  We consider the root meaning of the Biblical term “to judge”.  Then we look at the life of Jesus for examples of loving as opposed to condemning.

My hope is for this short message to motivate us all to be a bit more tolerant and merciful toward others.

Love

Posted in Religion, Seven-Minute-Sermons by pdave on September 5th, 2007

Perhaps it is the greatest word of the Christian faith.  Jesus said that all the teachings of the Commandments & the Prophets can be summarized in the necessity to love God and love your fellow man.  This short message emphasizes that it is most about action, not words- just like God.
