Judge Not

Posted in Religion, Seven-Minute-Sermons by pdave on September 30th, 2007

“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.  Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.” - Jesus, Luke 6:36-37

It is not my business, right, or even option to judge another person.  Yes, I can evaluate a thing or an action.  But when my conclusions and condemnations concern the value of a person, then I have crossed a moral and spiritual line.  The judgment of a person’s motives and eternal destiny- now, that is the responsibility of God alone.

This is a Seven-Minute-Sermon.  There is a lot packed into this little message.  It includes a humorous conversation between a paritioner and a priest.  And there is a lesson about passing judgment, learned well, by an attorney.  We consider the root meaning of the Biblical term “to judge”.  Then we look at the life of Jesus for examples of loving as opposed to condemning.

My hope is for this short message to motivate us all to be a bit more tolerant and merciful toward others.

Love

Posted in Religion, Seven-Minute-Sermons by pdave on September 5th, 2007

Perhaps it is the greatest word of the Christian faith.  Jesus said that all the teachings of the Commandments & the Prophets can be summarized in the necessity to love God and love your fellow man.  This short message emphasizes that it is most about action, not words- just like God.

Honesty

Posted in Religion, Seven-Minute-Sermons by pdave on August 19th, 2007

Sometimes it is not rewarded nor respected by those around us. Yet we are called upon by the scriptures to be persons of integrity. Consider with me this important character trait. And, hear the story of the Rockdale County High School Bulldogs and their amazing statement of honesty.

The Lord Is My Shepherd

Posted in Religion by pdave on August 17th, 2007

The 23rd Psalm!  Beautiful and melodic, perhaps it is the most read of Hebrew and Christian scriptures.  I find much that is practical within this short writing:

How does God choose to relate to his children?

How can faith be the answer to worry?

How can I face death without fear?

This brief message is presented as a Sunday evening teaching session.  Grab your Bible and a note pad, and explore with me some great truths.

The Dead Still Speak

Posted in Religion by pdave on August 17th, 2007

Preached on Memorial Day, from Hebrews 11:4 we consider how a life of service to God makes a lasting difference. Illustrations come from the writings of Jess Moody and the movie Saving Private Ryan. Length of life is not the matter of importance, nor notoriety, but impact. Make it count.

Christianity Confronts Culture: Success & Money

Posted in Religion by pdave on August 14th, 2007

As we continue this series, we consider the place of success and money in a life of true contentment.  Is money truly the “root of all evil”, as is often quoted?  The intention of this message is not to induce guilt.  It is to encourage an examination of life and priorities, and of course the love of God.

Christianity Confronting Culture: Terrorism

Posted in Religion by pdave on August 9th, 2007

How does the Christian of today best respond to terrorism?  Interestingly, it is a subject confronted by Jesus and the early church.  This is part of a series of messages shared by Pastor David in the Summer of 2007.
